Straight from the grower
Straight from the grower
We have been growing our plants with great passion since 1976. We are therefore proud that the third generation is now at the helm of our family business. All plants and trees we supply come either directly from our own nursery or from fellow nurseries that work in partnership with Heijnen. Through our close cooperation with various skilled growers, plant importers and other professionals, we guarantee products that are as fresh and high quality as possible. What this means for you is healthy and beautiful plants and trees straight from the nursery at competitive prices.

Height at time of delivery (cm)
Height at time of delivery (cm)

'Height without root ball' refers to the measurement of a plant or tree where the height is measured without taking into account the underlying root ball of roots and soil normally present when the plant is moved. When measuring height without root ball, only the visible part of the plant above ground, such as the trunk/stem, branches and leaves, is taken into account, while the root ball that is normally below ground is excluded from the measurement.

This height is given in centimetres and refers to the height of the visible part of the plant above the ground. In other words, the trunk/stem, branches and leaves. The root ball that is (normally) below the ground is excluded from this measurement. Location and soil type also affect mature plant height.

Genus

Genus

The genus is a taxonomic classification that includes several closely related species. Genus is a rank that is above the 'species' rank. The spelling of the genus name always includes one scientific name beginning with a capital letter. A genus cannot be ordered as a product; a species or variety can be ordered.

Positioning
Positioning

By positioning, we mean the number of hours of sunlight at the spot where the plants are to be placed. There are three categories for this, namely:

  • Sun - more than 4 hours of sun per day
  • Partial shade - up to 4 hours of sun per day
  • Shade - less than 2 hours of sun per day

The type of soil is of minor importance in most cases, unless otherwise stated for the product.

Growth habit
Show more
Growth habit

Growth habit is the way in which the plant grows and what general shape the plant has. Roughly speaking, we can divide our plants into the following categories:

  • Bushy spreading growth habit - in this growth habit, the plant grows bushy in both height and width.
  • Climbing growth habit - as the name suggests, a climbing plant. Suitable for positioning against a wall, fence or pergola.
  • Creeping wide-spreading growth habit - relatively low-growing and ground-covering plants that spread considerably, especially in width.
  • Upright growth habit - these plants grow mostly straight up and with virtually no overhang.
  • Upright to bushy growth habit - these plants tend to grow straight up and, especially as they grow taller, may overhang slightly.
  • Clump-forming and upright growth habit - these plants form a single clump from which stems, leaves and flowers grow. The taller the plant, the more the leaves and stems may overhang.
  • Clump-forming growth habit - these plants form a single clump and remain somewhat more compact in shape
  • Sod-forming growth habit - these plants form a dense carpet. Stems and leaves grow very closely together. You could compare this to the growth habit of a lawn.

Application
Show more
Application

By 'application' we mean how the planting can be used in the garden. In this, we distinguish between the possible applications below:

Border: also called a bed, this is a strip of ground (part of the garden) intended for planting. Due to the construction of paths, terraces and lawn, a garden often consists of multiple borders:

  • Group planting: plants that are at their best when placed together in small or large groups and can be easily combined with other garden plants if desired.
  • Edge planting: mostly low-growing plants that are suitable for use at the edge of borders and so provide a nice progression from low to tall plants.
  • Underplanting: mostly shade-loving plants that can be planted under large shrubs and trees.

Solitary: a plant (usually a larger shrub) that does best when planted alone and not with several of the same variety together. A solitary plant is a real eye-catcher and also provides 'body' to the garden. You place a solitary plant in a border in combination with (relatively) low-growing plants, for example.

Pot: a plant that grows well in a pot.

Planter: plants that are perfect for use in planters.

Hedge: plants that grow particularly tall and branch nicely through pruning. This makes them ideal for use as a natural screen (hedge). We offer hedge plants for both low and tall hedges.

Pergola: plants that are ideal for planting and growing against a pergola.

Fence: plants that can be grown against a fence or placed in front of a fence.

Wall: plants that can be grown against a wall or placed in front of a wall.

Trellis: plants that can be grown in a trellis to create more greenery and privacy in the garden.

Slope: plants that are ideal for planting on a slope.

Winter hardiness

A winter hardiness zone, also known as a USDA zone, is a classification system used to categorise climatic conditions based on winter temperatures (susceptibility to frost). These zones range from 1a (coldest) to 13b (mildest). These winter hardiness zones can help you find the right plants and trees that are sufficiently hardy for your region.

The winter temperatures the plant or tree can withstand is noted with each product. See the overview of winter hardiness zones here:

White flowering rock garden plants are a beautiful addition to any garden. These plants, like Arabis and Saxifraga, are known for their bright white alpine flowers. They are often used to create stunning white flowering gardens and pure white borders. These plants thrive in rocky areas, making them perfect for rock gardens. White flowering rock garden plants are also called pearl-white rocky flowers or white-toned stone garden plants. They add a touch of elegance with their snow white and ivory white blooms. These plants are ideal for creating a garden with white colour accents, offering a soft white or milky white appearance. In the garden, white flowering rock garden plants are used to enhance evening rock gardens with their pure white rockery plants. They provide a striking contrast against the rocks, creating a serene and calming atmosphere. Features of clean and bright rocky garden plants

White flowering rock garden plants are a stunning addition to any garden. These plants grow in various forms, often spreading low to the ground, creating a carpet of bright white alpine flowers. They can spread up to 30 cm wide, making them ideal for filling spaces in rockeries. The development of white flowering rock garden plants begins in early spring. They start as small buds and gradually open into beautiful snow-white rockery blooms. By late spring, they reach their full size, showcasing pure white alpine plants that add elegance to any garden. These plants typically bloom from late spring to early summer. The blooming period can be influenced by factors such as climate, temperature, and soil preparation. In cooler climates, they may bloom later, while warmer temperatures can encourage earlier flowering. The blooms of white flowering rock garden plants are often a soft white or ivory-toned. The exact shade can depend on the specific cultivar and soil conditions. Adequate sunlight and proper care can enhance their vibrant white colour. While not all white rockery plants are known for their fragrance, some may have a subtle scent. The intensity of the fragrance can vary based on the plant's age and environmental conditions. Mature white flowering rock garden plants can reach a height of 15 to 30 cm. Their height makes them perfect for creating white flowering borders or adding white colour accents to a garden. Proper placement and care ensure they thrive and complement other garden elements.

White flowering rock garden plants are a beautiful addition to any garden. These plants have unique leaf shapes, colours, and textures. The leaves can be small and delicate, often with a soft green hue. Some have a waxy coating that helps them retain moisture. In winter, many white flowering rockery plants keep their leaves, adding year-round interest to the garden. However, some may lose their leaves depending on the species and climate conditions.

These plants are generally hardy, but their frost sensitivity can vary. Factors like temperature, frost duration, and wind exposure play a role. A sheltered spot with well-drained soil can help protect them from harsh winter conditions. White flowering rock garden plants are often evergreen, maintaining their foliage throughout the year. This characteristic depends on the species and the local climate.

Heat and drought resistance are important for these plants. Their origin, leaf structure, and root system contribute to their ability to withstand dry conditions. A deep root system and a waxy leaf surface can help them survive in hot, dry weather. White flowering rock garden plants are generally non-toxic, making them safe for gardens with children and pets. They are easy to handle and pose no risk during normal gardening activities.

These plants support biodiversity by providing food and shelter for insects and small animals. Their long blooming period and native-friendly traits help mimic natural habitats, promoting a balanced ecosystem. White flowering rock garden plants can enhance the garden's resistance to pests and diseases, making them a valuable addition to any garden with white colour accents.

For those looking to buy white flowering rock garden plants, these options offer a variety of uses to enhance any garden with their ivory-toned and milky white blooms.

Good companions for white flower contrast

White flowering rock garden plants can create a stunning display when combined with other plant types. These plants, known for their bright white alpine flowers, pair beautifully with contrasting foliage and blooms. Consider mixing them with silver-leaved plants like Artemisia or Lamb's Ear. The soft white tones of the white flowering rock garden plants stand out against the silvery backdrop, creating a striking visual effect. For a more colourful contrast, plant them alongside purple or blue flowers such as Salvia or Campanula. The pearl-white rocky flowers provide a lovely contrast to the deeper hues, enhancing the overall beauty of the garden. Another option is to combine them with grasses like Festuca or Carex, which add texture and movement to the garden with white colour accents. These combinations work well because they highlight the pure white rockery plants, making them the focal point of the garden. The mix of textures and colours creates a balanced and harmonious look, perfect for white flowering borders or a garden with white colour accents. Whether in a small rockery or a larger landscape, these white-toned stone garden plants bring elegance and charm to any setting.

Conditions for full white bloom potential

White flowering rock garden plants thrive best in full sun. They need at least six hours of sunlight daily to produce bright white alpine flowers. If planted in partial shade, the blooms may not be as vibrant. Wind can affect these plants, so consider placing them near a windbreak or using garden structures to shield them. The ideal soil for white flowering rockery plants is well-drained and slightly alkaline. Adding organic matter can improve soil structure, while regular fertilisation supports growth. Ensure the soil is not too compact, as this can hinder root development. Soil moisture is crucial for white rockery plants. They prefer moderate moisture levels, so avoid waterlogged conditions. Wind and sun exposure can dry out the soil, so mulching helps retain moisture. These plants favour a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. Testing the soil pH can guide adjustments, ensuring the right conditions for snow-white rockery blooms. Maintaining the correct pH supports nutrient uptake, leading to healthier plants. Incorporating white flowering rock garden plants into a garden with white colour accents creates a stunning visual effect, enhancing pure white borders and gardens.

How and when to plant white rockery plants

White flowering rock garden plants can be planted throughout the year if they are delivered in pots, except during frost periods. For plants with a root ball, it's best to plant them in spring or autumn. Factors like soil type, sunlight, and climate play a role in successful planting. The plant spacing for white flowering rock garden plants depends on the plant type, size at planting, and growth rate. Information about the number of plants per metre is usually available on the plant's product page. Proper soil preparation is crucial for these plants. Ensure the soil is well-drained and enriched with organic matter. When planting, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the plant, and fill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting and maintain regular watering, especially during dry spells. This helps the white flowering rock garden plants establish well and thrive in the garden.

    Maintenance for White Rockery Plants

White flowering rock garden plants, also known as snow-white rockery blooms or pure white alpine plants, bring elegance to any garden. Proper care ensures their beauty lasts.

    • Watering: White rockery plants need regular watering, especially during dry spells. Check soil moisture by touching the top layer. Water deeply but avoid waterlogging.
    • Pruning: Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Use clean, sharp tools to prevent damage.
    • Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to promote healthy blooms. Follow package instructions for the right amount.
    • Dividing: Divide plants every few years to prevent overcrowding. Best done in early spring or autumn.
    • Winter Protection: Provide mulch to protect roots from frost. Remove in spring to allow new growth.
    • Transplanting: If needed, transplant in early spring. Water well after moving to help roots establish.
For those looking to enhance their garden with white colour accents, consider adding these stunning plants. They complement white flowering gardens and pure white borders beautifully. To explore options, buy white flowering rock garden plants online.
