Choose the right plants for your balcony
The success of your green balcony starts with selecting plants that suit the location and the amount of sunlight your balcony receives.
Sunny balcony (south or west)
You can place Mediterranean plants here that love a lot of sun. Think of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead'), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and olive trees Olea europaea. These types are not only decorative, but also spread a lovely scent.
Shady balcony (north or east)
Choose shade-loving plants such as ferns, hostas and ivy (Hedera helix). These plants grow well without direct sunlight and bring greenery to the shade.
Use vertical space
When the floor space is limited, you can go upwards to add more greenery.
