Straight from the grower
Straight from the grower
We have been growing our plants with great passion since 1976. We are therefore proud that the third generation is now at the helm of our family business. All plants and trees we supply come either directly from our own nursery or from fellow nurseries that work in partnership with Heijnen. Through our close cooperation with various skilled growers, plant importers and other professionals, we guarantee products that are as fresh and high quality as possible. What this means for you is healthy and beautiful plants and trees straight from the nursery at competitive prices.

Traits of red-toned climbing plants for drama

Red flowering climbers are a stunning addition to any garden. These bold red vines grow by attaching themselves to structures like trellises or walls. They spread wide, creating a lush, vibrant display. As they develop, red flowering climbers start as small shoots and gradually grow into mature plants, reaching their full height over several seasons. The blooming period for these climbers varies, often occurring in late spring to early summer. Factors like climate, temperature, and soil preparation play a crucial role. Proper care and the plant's age also influence the blooming time. The blooms of red flowering climbers come in various shades, including deep red, carmine red, and fiery red. The specific colour can depend on the cultivar, soil conditions, and light exposure. While not all red flowering climbers are known for their scent, some varieties do offer a pleasant fragrance. This can be influenced by the plant's age and the care it receives. The mature height of these climbers can vary, often reaching several metres. This makes them ideal for creating red flowering borders or adding red colour accents to a garden. Choosing the right location and providing proper care ensures they thrive, offering the best red blooms for vertical spaces. For those looking to enhance their garden with these stunning plants, consider options to buy red flowering climbers to achieve a dramatic effect.

Red flowering climbers are a stunning addition to any garden, offering vibrant hues like deep red, carmine red, and fiery red. The leaves of these bold red vines vary in shape and texture, often with a glossy finish that enhances their bright red blooms. Some varieties are evergreen, maintaining their foliage year-round, while others may shed leaves in colder climates. Factors such as species choice and local climate influence whether these plants retain their leaves through winter.

Winter hardiness is crucial for red flowering climbing plants. They thrive in mild temperatures but can be sensitive to frost. Protection from harsh winds and ensuring well-drained soil can improve their resilience. In terms of heat and drought tolerance, these plants often have adaptations like a waxy leaf coating or deep root systems, helping them withstand dry conditions.

When considering safety, red flowering climbers are generally non-toxic, making them safe for gardens with children and pets. However, it's always wise to supervise interactions with any plant. These climbers also play a vital role in biodiversity, providing food and shelter for insects and birds. Their long-lasting blooms support pollinators, enhancing the garden's ecosystem.

Incorporating red flowering climbers into a garden with red colour accents can create a striking visual impact. Whether used in red flowering borders or as a focal point in a garden with red-toned borders, these plants offer the best red blooms for vertical spaces, transforming any area into a vibrant display.

Great pairings with white or green foliage

Red flowering climbers can create a stunning effect in any garden. These bold red vines are perfect for adding vibrant colour to vertical spaces. Combining red flowering climbing plants with white or green foliage can enhance their beauty. For example, pairing deep red vertical plants with white clematis or green ivy creates a striking contrast. Bright red climbers like scarlet runner beans can be combined with silver-leaved plants such as lamb's ear for a unique look. These combinations work well because the red climbing plants stand out against the neutral tones, making the red blooms more vivid. In a garden with red colour accents, using red flowering climbers for stunning gardens can create a focal point. The best red blooms for vertical spaces, like fiery red or cherry red, can be highlighted by surrounding them with lush green foliage. This not only adds depth to the garden but also creates a harmonious balance. Red flowering borders can be enhanced with carmine red or burgundy red climbers, providing a rich and elegant touch to any outdoor space.

Soil and sunlight for red success

Red flowering climbers thrive best in full sun, needing at least six hours of sunlight daily. This ensures vibrant blooms in shades like deep red, carmine red, and fiery red. However, partial shade can be tolerated, especially in hotter climates. Wind can be a concern for these bold red vines. Planting near a sturdy structure or using windbreaks can help protect them. The ideal soil for red flowering climbing plants is well-draining and rich in organic matter. Regular fertilisation supports growth, enhancing the garden with red colour accents. Moisture levels are crucial; the soil should remain consistently moist but not waterlogged. Wind and sun exposure can affect soil moisture, so mulching helps retain it. These crimson flowering climbers prefer a slightly acidic to neutral pH, around 6.0 to 7.0. Soil pH can influence nutrient availability, impacting the vibrancy of scarlet climbing wall plants. Regular testing ensures the right balance, promoting healthy red climbing plants in any garden.

When and how to plant red flowering climbers

Red flowering climbers can be planted throughout the year if they are delivered in pots, except during frost periods. For those with root balls or bare roots, the best time is in spring or autumn. Factors like soil type, sunlight, and climate play a role in successful planting. Ensure the soil is well-drained and enriched with compost for optimal growth. The planting distance for red flowering climbers depends on the plant type, initial size, and growth rate. Typically, the number of plants per metre is specified on the product page. For a lush effect, consider the mature size and spread of the climbers. Proper soil preparation is crucial. Loosen the soil and mix in organic matter to improve fertility. This helps the roots establish quickly. When planting, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Place the plant at the same depth as it was in the pot. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. Regular watering is essential, especially in the first few weeks, to ensure the climbers establish well. This care will lead to a vibrant display of deep red vertical plants in the garden.

Maintenance for a Red Climber Plant

Red flowering climbers add vibrant colour to any garden. Proper care ensures their health and colour strength. Here are some tips for maintaining these beautiful plants:

    • Watering: Red climbing plants need regular watering, especially during dry spells. Check soil moisture by touching the top layer; if dry, water thoroughly.
    • Pruning: Prune red climber plants in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth. Use sharp tools to remove dead or weak branches, promoting a healthy structure.
    • Fertilising: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support growth. Repeat every 4-6 weeks during the growing season for optimal results.
    • Dividing: If necessary, divide crimson flowering climbers every 3-4 years in early spring. This helps rejuvenate the plant and encourages more blooms.
    • Winter Protection: In colder climates, protect scarlet climbing wall plants with mulch or a frost cover to prevent damage from harsh weather.
    • Transplanting: If moving a red flowering climbing plant, do so in early spring. Water well after transplanting and monitor for stress signs.
