Fertilising a Mandevilla sanderi
To flourish and produce its striking rose-colored blossoms, Mandevilla sanderi requires regular feeding during its growing season. From the onset of spring through to the end of summer, a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer should be applied every two weeks. It is crucial to ensure the fertilizer is diluted to half the recommended strength to prevent over-fertilization, which can lead to nutrient burn.
As this species is not winter-hardy beyond USDA zone 10b, it should be protected from temperatures that dip below 4.4°C. During the cooler months, reduce feeding frequency as the plant enters a state of dormancy. Cease fertilization in the autumn and through the winter, to resume only once the last frost has passed and the plant shows signs of new growth in the spring.
